Made then as now from 36 oz Melton wool, it serves its protective purpose while looking elegant. The dense felt structure keeps you warm, is wind and water repellent and makes Melton the most weatherproof of all wool fabrics. Until the end of the 1930s, it was fitted with black Bakelite buttons depicting an anchor surrounded by 13 stars. William
